GLOR YOUTH CHOIR
"NATIONAL YOUTH CHOIR OF THE YEAR 2023"
CONGRATULATIONS TO GLOR YOUTH CHOIR ON ACHIEVING 1st PLACE in the LITURGICAL MUSIC Competition 1st PLACE in the IRISH MUSIC Competition AND 1st PLACE in the “NATIONAL YOUTH CHOIR OF THE YEAR 2023” OUT OF A STRONG 13 CHOIRS.
Following their recent Success at WALES International Choral Competition - from 10 choirs all over the UK and IRELAND - GLOR YOUTH CHOIR - are OVER THE MOON after being crowned the "NATIONAL YOUTH CHOIR OF THE YEAR 2023"; an accolade that is a "Dream come true" for their Director Ciaran Brady. Not only Did they win the big title, but prior to the big competition, they beat off stiff competition and won 1st place in the "Liturgical Music Competition" and the "Irish Music Competition".
They sang a total of 6 pieces on the Day and consistently wowed the Judges. The Choir see it as winning the "Triple Crown" of the Irish Youth Choral World. Their winning performances were cleverly seeded by beginning with their best; Performances from the incredible Soloists, Soprano "Sarah Sheeran", and Tenor "Fionn Campbell", for which, both pieces were accompanied by the Choir. A lot of pressure on such young shoulders hailed victory with words such as "Amazing" and "Fantastic" being awarded to their skill. On the back of the Irish Music win there was a task at hand to deliver the art of singing Liturgical Music, and yet again, GLOR Youth Choir beat off stiff competition and won First Place, Fronted by their amazing talent of Men (18 and under), that had the Judges likened to "For Sure the next famous Boy Band”.
But the DREAM prize for the 30 Strong SATB Mixed Choir of Boys and Girls, was saving their two Gold Winning choices of "My Lord has Come" by Will Todd and an arrangement of the spiritual "Elijah Rock" for the "NATIONAL YOUTH CHOIR OF THE YEAR 2023" Competition. There were 13 competing choirs from all over Ireland and Northern Ireland. These were two extremely difficult and technical pieces of Choral Music that were hailed as a "perfect choice to display the skill of the Choir"; and Judge "Richard Yarr MBE and BBC Sacred Choral Music Presenter" hailed the winning choir performance as "Singing extremely difficult and technical music, but making it sound like it was Straight Forward".
The Choir members and Conductor are absolutely "Over The Moon" with their win. Unfortunately for them their Huge Success and Wins mark the end of the choral year for them until September, and they return to their books for the looming end of year exams and Junior and Leaving Certificate. However, their memories in these formative years are solidified, and the winning trophies will remain polished throughout the year in the hope of receiving the Perpetual Trophies back to the Midland town of Moate again next year for the next batch of Choral Musicians. GLOR CHILDREN’S CHOIR, under the same umbrella as the Youth Choir is for primary aged children, were successful at the RDS Feis Ceoil in Dublin winning second place in two competitions last March. The choirs were established in 2008 by their conductor Ciaran Brady - who founded the "Academy of Music" in Tullamore, and is a full time professional Vocal Coach and conductor of many award winning choirs.
Both choirs rehearse on Thursdays in Moate community Hall and new members are always welcome. GLOR Choirs, unusually, are not a school Choir; and therefore are welcoming to any school aged children from all over the midland counties, enhancing the musicianship and social freedom that singing and music has to offer as an out of school pastime and activity.
